The Jewelry Channel Set
To Debut In April
Dan Dennis Signed To Host &
Head Up On-Air Talent Department As Well
In a move that virtually
surprised everyone in the home shopping business today, Dan Dennis Dot
Com broke the news of a brand-new, 24 hour a day all-jewelry network, to
launch sometime in early to mid April of this year. The channel, known simply
as "The Jewelry Channel," will be based in Austin, Texas, and backed by one of
the largest gem & jewelry manufacturers in the world today. "Because we are
going to be selling virtually just our own merchandise, we will not be at the
mercy of our suppliers," Dan said. "Sometimes, they have been known to take
liberties with prices when the market for a particular gem is hot. We'll not
have to endure any of that" Dan continued. "In fact, because we will be
selling our own goods, we will be cutting out many layers of middlemen, and
offer prices to our customers that others could only dream of meeting." The
parent corporation owns a diamond mine in the former Russia, and is one of
only six jewelry companies in the world to have direct access to the one (and
only one) tanzanite mine owned and operated by Tanzanite One in Merelani,
Tanzania, Africa. "I couldn't think of two gems I'd rather be basic in than
diamonds and tanzanite," Dan said. "Diamonds are in constant demand, and
always will be. Tanzanite will remain hot until the last stone is retrieved
from the ground. I think this puts The Jewelry Channel in a pretty good
position."
Reverse-Auction Format
Arrives From The UK
There is nothing on the air
today quite like the Jewelry Channel. The new style of selling, technically
called "the reverse-auction format," features tumbling prices that keeps the
viewer and the host guessing throughout the broadcast. The pace is quick, most
items on the air for six minutes, or less. "We're shooting for four minutes an
item," Dan said, "but how fast these items sell out is entirely up to the
customer." Fast-paced action, upbeat music and fresh, young faces will grace
your TV screen daily. "You will fall in love with the format, and The Jewelry
Channel," Dan continued. "As head of the on-air talent, I'll do my best to
make sure that every host is equipped with the proper information, so that no
matter when you watch us, you'll have the opportunity to learn something new,
all the while having the time of your life!" The format is actually coming to
the U.S. from our friends in the UK. The Jewelry Channel has been on line in
the UK for approximately one year now, and is doing quite well for itself, and
a new channel has just been launched in Germany, and started to take hold.
Link - Link - Link
For those of you who just
cannot stand to wait, and want to see what we are going to look like, here is
a link that you can follow overseas to our sister channel in the UK. You can
watch the show live from their web site via this link:
I think you'll all agree that
this is one cool idea, the next step in the video retailing industry.
Who - What - Where
Starting off, we will be on
cable in the Austin area on Time Warner cable, and on DirecTV. Once our web
site is complete, you will be able to watch the show live via the internet. As
we grow, so will our available cable outlets, of course. Our parent company
has made no bones about it -- they want us to be as big as QVC one day. That
is music to my ears!
Watch for The Jewelry
Channel, coming soon to your TV set.
One Final Word
by Dan Dennis
"All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown,
The moon rolls through the nighttime 'til the
daybreak comes around.
There's no straight lines make up my life,
and all my roads have bends,
There's no clear cut beginnings, and so far,
no dead ends."
--- The late, great Harry Chapin
Although I
was never so lucky to meet the man, I swear he wrote this song just for me.
Once the move to Austin is complete, I will
have moved 19 times in the past 35 years, forever looking for new things to
do, new roads to travel, new chances to take and mostly, new challenges to meet.
The move to The Jewelry Channel is another example of what my life has always
been about.
This will be an exciting new venture, loaded
with challenges ahead. Will it make it or not --- how will it compete against
the "big boys?" Who knows? Those are the tasks that make life fun and
exciting. How fortunate I am to be in a position to take yet
another shot at another new lease on life.
Moving my family from Florida's Southwestern
Gulf Coast and a dream job where I work strictly for myself to a new, unproven
network in Austin, Texas of all places? I must be out of my mind. Stick
around. This is probably my most
challenging move ever.
Please keep in mind that because I am
relocating to Austin on Tuesday March 20th, I will have only limited computer
resources (laptop) available until we complete our household move in May. I
will certainly be monitoring email, but this will be my one, and only
newsletter until at least the middle of May. If possible, I will post updates
on the progress of the network and my own schedule on Dan Dennis Dot Com,
providing I can talk my wife through the maze of Microsoft Front Page. My best
guess is that we will be on the air by April 15th and initially I will be on
the air 2 - 3 days a week and spend the rest of my time training all of our
new hosts. Once everyone is up to speed, I plan on spending 3 - 4 days a week
on the air, from mid afternoon to early evening, somewhere between 2 - 8PM.
The opportunity to combine my on-air
experience and my 22 years in the business to be the Head of On-Air Talent is
something that I have waited for and very much looked forward to for a long
time. I hope you will all join me whenever you can and enjoy our time
together, again! I'll see you soon, on The Jewelry Channel.
