Fiction, Facts & Folklore:

Aventurine quartz is found in a wide array of colors that include green, gold, brown, orange, rust and blue-green.

Aventurine quartz may contain a wide variety of inclusions, including pyrite, mica and others.

Its color is pretty much dependent on the makeup of its inclusions.

When it contains the specs of pyrite (fools gold) it looks like a twin to aventurine feldspar.

In order for consumers to differentiate between the two, aventurine feldspar is often known as "sunstone"

Goldstone, a man made glass with copper inclusions, has been confused with aventurine quartz by consumers.

In certain shades of green, aventurine quartz can easily be mistaken for jade.

Aventurine, when literally translated into Italian, means by accident.

When aventurine is found with specs of hematite, the effect is known as aventuresence.
