cost & rarity.

 

Not only does this amazing gem show a chatoyancy, it also displays the color change properties of the natural alexandrite.

 

A cat�s eye chrysoberyl rough weighing an astounding 317 carats and a finished gem of 72 carats were displayed at a gem & mineral show in 1997. Both pieces reportedly originated in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

 

Despite these rare finds, this particular form of chrysoberyl is among the rarest gems on earth. The future of the cat�s eye chrysoberyl remains uncertain.
