Fiction, Facts & Folklore:

Citrine is the yellow variety of the quartz mineral group.

At one time, citrine was found in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

The of Madeira, Spain produces a natural dark golden variety of citrine known as Madeira citrine, which is sometimes misrepresented as the costly imperial topaz.

Like so many other gems (amethyst, blue topaz etc.) in citrine generally speaking the darker the stone, the higher the value. Today, it is commonplace for a gem that is a dark golden hue to be termed a "Madeira citrine" to associate its' color with those mentioned above.

Astrologers believe there is a link between the citrine and the planet Jupiter.

Like so many other gemstones (blue topaz for one) natural citrine is considered a rare find in the gem world. Thus, the vast majority of citrine seen at retail is actually heat-treated amethyst.

A gem known as a "smoketrine" can be produced by heating a smoky quartz until it shows yellow citrine in the right combination and place. It obviously has nothing in common with the ametrine, which is a natural gem.

By placing a citrine on the forehead of an elder, he would become all-powerful.

Bright yellow citrine was considered an aid to emotional healing.
