The demantoid garnet is the most sought after member of the andradite group.

Chromium is the primary coloring agent for demantoid garnet.

Demantoid is sometimes found with inclusions of asbestos. Because of their wispy shape, these inclusions are sometimes known as horsetails.

Demantoid garnet is generally more costly than the tsavorite, an emerald-green grossular garnet.

The demantoid garnet was first discovered in the Ural Mountains of the former Russia. It is considered even today its most significant source.

If your name is Dennis the demantoid is considered to be your gem. Its connection to the author is obvious!
